Title: Strategies of Sexual Activity in the Adolescent Red-Eared Sewer Slider, a Doctoral Dissertation for the Natural Sciences faculty of Laird University, New York. Presented by Donatello Hamato and April O'Neill.
Fandom: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Pairing: Leonardo/Raphael
Rating: R for language and weirdness
Notes/Warnings: Almost none of the scientific "facts" in this story are true.
Originally written for Saiyuri/Fyrechylde.
Summary: Field study of the sexual habits of T.s. bipeda (red-eared sewer slider) in their natural habitat.

The sexual mores of most turtle species have been studied outside and in during the last few decades, so what more is there to learn about the courtship rituals of mating pairs? )

So, I'm in the middle of unpacking, right? (For those of you not in the know, I just moved in with [personal profile] comixologist). So we had to ship a crap ton of stuff because there was no way I was shlepping ten boxes worth of books and four or five boxes of assorted kitchen and other stuff with me across the country.

Yesterday, we picked up the boxes and today is UNPACKING! Hooray!

We probably should have started to notice something was wrong when the dust jackets for the wrong books were in my boxes. Or when the loose page from the Kingdom Hearts 2 strat guide ended up in a box without the strat guide.

But it wasn't until I opened a box and found a shiny new meat grinder and an inspirational Christian romance that we really figured out that something was well and truly wonky. See, I don't buy Christian romances, not even ironically. And I do not and never have owned a table-top meat grinder. So... I. Uh. Also in that box? Several loose pieces from one of my Murder Mystery Box Sets, and the top, but not the bottom or the cards, from one of my Apple to Apples expansion sets.

So that's today. I look forward to opening more boxes and figuring out how much of my gay porn the Christian Romance Lady has taken home with her.
So, I'm labeling new books, so we can get them put on the shelf, and I came across a copy of David Rosenberg's The Book of David, which I guess is an exploration of David as a writer of the Bible? IDEK. What I do know is that someone (possibly the person who donated the book) decided to take the entire blank front page to write his or her notes. In pen.

It's funny enough that we decided to put the barcode label on the next page so the notes are unobstructed.

In case you're wondering just what is so important that one would write all over the frontpage of a book going to a library, here is the transcript (or as much of the terrible writing as I could make out.)

Where is the bibliography???

Way too polemical about all(?) other scholarship.

Attacks other scholars for their "misreading" of [unintelligible] but does not permit scholarly arguments to support his own position; instead he offers a populist narrative w/out[?] source refs to bolster his position.

Too much assumption given to the idea that "aboriginal people" were to be despised. However- the idea may have originated of the exiles returning from Persia, who wanted to skew how they [unintelligible] [unintelligible] to the people left behind.

Head the Jews here "aboriginal," they would have played this up, as it is in fact strengthena claim to Promised Land"

I also do not like his [unintelligible] of Psalms.

The take-away lesson? If you're going to write in a library book, do it intelligibly.

So, I really, really enjoy fics about an outsider dealing with cultish, semi-military families/groups.

of course, I just really like fish-out-of-water stories. Also, all ridiculous AUs ever. ([personal profile] comixologist can tell you just how many crazy-ass badfic AUs I link her to regularly.)

So, you know. I'm just saying.

I need a name for my new iPod (it's a white 5th Gen). My last one was Gentleman Johnny Marcone, and the one before that was GiR.

Ideas, anyone?

I can't quite figure out why I dislike Holly Black's writing so much. I mean, the Modern Fairy Tale series just read as really LOL edgy to me. Very "I'm trying to be darkity darkity dark and rebellious"-- which I didn't even like much when I was a teenager.

Now I'm trying "White Cat", which should be totally my speed. It's about the con-artist youngest son of a magical mafia family who is the only member of the family to have no magical talents. It's tailor-made to hit my narrative kinks. But I'm thirty pages in and all I want is to smack him for being a whiny, self-absorbed idiot.

about: The companion mix for Arysteia's That Which We Call a Rose, at [livejournal.com profile] comicsbigbang.

The course of true love never did run smooth. AKA: When Clark Kent met Bruce Wayne. And Bruce Wayne met Superman. And Superman met Batman. And Batman met Clark Kent. And Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne finally got their acts together...

{Spoilers for not very much at all}

Wow, I managed to go an entire mix without Cowboy Mouth OR Big & Rich? That's rare.

I always lust over trying to do Remix. And every year I remember that I a) don't write enough in popular fandoms and b) don't write enough in general. I think last year I wrote five full-length fics. And they were all for Yuletide or another fic exchange. And for vaguely common fandoms, I wrote about eight commentfics for [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic.

I wish I could write more, but it seems like every time I start trying to write for myself (as opposed to having an externally imposed deadline and a fic recipient) I just flail and shut down. Which sucks because Remix is the sort of thing I'd do well with-- if I could write enough to qualify for it.

OH! And since I'm posting (instead of doing useful things), I should pimp!

I got dragooned into mixing for [livejournal.com profile] comicsbigbang, which will go up next Wednesday. But! [personal profile] jazzypom, who I totally would have mixed for if her fic hadn't been snatched up WAY before I got there, asked me to beta her RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME Young Avengers fic. It's future fic and Eli/Kate, with some Eli/Tommy Kate/Tommy, I mean. Eli is a librarian, people. It's pretty amazing.

So, yeah, that's at her journal: Gravity: The Fundamental Things Apply.

You know, the major reason I haven't moved over here more is that I have no idea how to find things or people of interest. I don't remember how I did it on LJ anymore.

I mean aside from, like, memers.

I need a new fandom. If only there were more than two seasons of Nero Wolfe available. :( And it actually had, you know, a fandom. Sadness.

Also, the AO3 maintenance people are really slow and apparently think I'm an idiot. Frustration abounds.

In other news, I'm using [personal profile] ellery_queen as a dump journal for my [community profile] comment_fic fics. There aren't many, since I write when I have inspiration, and I'm always a little iffy about writing fic off the top of my head. Also, comment_fic likes Chris Kane a lot, and I'm really only interested in him when he's banging Aldis Hodge's character, so... erh. Yeah.
I keep wanting to make a really mean comment about the new RDJ!Sherlock Holmes and typecasting RE:unstable drug addicts.

But that's just because I'm a Jeremy Brett!wife and RDJ's smug face makes me want to punch him. Sherlock Holmes is not an action hero. He's a detective who occasionally engages in fisticuffs. He's also Jeremy Brett, and anyone who disagrees is bad and should feel bad.

Here's the trailer, I'm sure many people will be pleased:

Enjoy. >:( I'm going to watch my Jeremy Brett DVDs again.

Hi, memers.
