Time to submit Yaoicon panels and hope like hell Joyce isn't pissed at me after last year.

Comments, criticism and suggestion are all welcome. I'll be submitting these to YCon in a day or so.

Hey, Dreamwidth, long time no see!

I offered to do a prize for [community profile] kink_bingo, so...

CONGRATULATIONS, [personal profile] issei!

In honor of your amazing accomplishment, I have podficced your Magic Kaito fic, Self.

Podfic can be found, listened to and/or downloaded on box.net [HERE]

Original fic can be found on [personal profile] issei's DW [HERE]

I have a cat that needs a good home. Artie is a 2 year old male (neutered, all his shots), white with a tabby helmet and saddle, and he's the most loving cat you will ever meet. We brought him from Florida on the assumption that my parents can take him in but what with the upheaval of trying to move and the recent death of their other cat, their current cat is not amenable to that situation.

Because of this he is in dire need of a good home. My mother is telling me she wants him out within a week or two, so we need to find him a home as soon as possible. He's really a sweetheart, very playful and used to small apartments and other cats. He also is good with children! :D?

For anyone wondering, he's currently a little confused and needy, what with being locked in a room away from my parents' cat, but happy and lovey towards anyone willing to give him attention. He's being a real trooper about the whole situation.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you or someone you know can take him, let me know ASAP. Either here or via e-mail at ryuutchi @ gmail . com

Even if you don't know someone, boost the signal so we can find someone. PLEASE.

Three huge pictures and a completely inappropriate video of him after the cut )
about: The companion mix for the utterly FABULOUS (no really, I can't recommend it enough, go read it IMMEDIATELY) Naruto Space Pirate AU, Space Piracy: Lessons in Love, Ass-Kicking and Instant Ramen at [livejournal.com profile] bigbangttebayo.

Ninjas IN SPACE! Join Soragakure's pirate ship captain, Uzumaki Naruto and his crew of misfits on an epic adventure, spanning whole galaxies as they fight to gain control of a viciously dangerous viral mainframe, parts of which are contained in the partly-cyborg bodies of nine men and women all over the known universe. Enemies become friends and friends become something more in a frantic race to outrun the unscrupulous Akatsuki organisation and the corrupt Alliance of space cities and steal a weapon that may mean the end of creation as they know it.

{No spoilers, except for how ridiculously fun this fic is}

Did I say that you should read that fic? Because you should. Right now. GO.

I know I'm hideous at actually fulfilling memes like this and shit, but inspired by [livejournal.com profile] conditionally and [livejournal.com profile] 1010nabulation (and encouraged in posting by [personal profile] megyal):

One Sentence Porn Fic Meme

Comment with your favorite pairing, fandom and/or prompts and I'll respond with a one sentence of porn fic!

Most of you know my fandoms, but here's a partial list:
Power Rangers
Young Avengers
Criminal Minds
Gundam Wing

You can prompt stuff not on the list too, if you know I like it!

I want to point at this [livejournal.com profile] yuletide kefluffle and sad face that it didn't happen two weeks ago. Because [livejournal.com profile] sleepfighter and I kept using the concept of "performative fandom" when we were talking about "The Limits of Online Fandom" at Yaoicon, and this is kind of a perfect example of how what one group of people can do in fandom is similar, but subtly different from another group-- how concepts of fandom change based on where you are, and what you're doing.

I really want to make a post about the whole idea of performative fandom (and the fact that [profile] birchsalt's list made me BZUH over her inclusion of Percy Jackson until I realized there were 25-30 Percy Jackson fics posted on FF.N yesterday alone-- if that doesn't make my performative bias obvious, I don't know what does), but I need to get dressed and go to work.

Oh hey! [community profile] remixduello is open!

I offered to pinchhit for the exchange, and ended up remixing [personal profile] milleniumrex's really intriguing fic, Heart of Steel.

I think it came out really well (if I do say so myself). Heart of Steel was a really deep fic, and it was a challenge for me to come up with something that was in the spirit of the original piece while still being something that was my generally light-hearted and vaguely pornerrific style.

Title: Lovemaking is Full of Unspoken Promises (The Love is as Love Does Remix)
Fandom: Superfamily/DC Comics
Pairing: Kara Zor-El/Cassie Sandsmark
Rating: Adult
Warnings: Underage teens making out and discussing sex, Paralysis/Serious Injury
Summary:Lovemaking is full of unspoken promises/which everybody knows/but no one understands.

Months after the accident that left Kara's body unresponsive, she and Cassie start to find ways to make their relationship physical again.

Snaffled from [livejournal.com profile] hannahrorlove:

1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 people (I will pick only fictional people for you)
2) Post this meme to your LJ with your answers.
3) Provide pictures and the names of the 3 people.
4) Shag, Marry, Cliff!

1. Shag: Karolina Dean

She's a cute lesbian, but really not my choice for an actual relationship. She's sweet, though, and I wouldn't mind a fling, even though she's definitely got a neurotic lesbian problems with co-dependent relationships thing going.

2. Marry: Romana

She's Romana. She'd probably drive me crazy and divorce me by leaving me stranded on a planet, but she's just so cool and I'm totally in love with her, so.

3. Cliff: John WInchester

JDM might be the most handsome and talented of actors, but daddy Winchester is a complete asshole and I want to punch him in the face and then shove him off a cliff.
So I'm volunteering at Wild Iris Books, and I offered to start doing book reviews of feminist, queer, pagan or otherwise interesting books for their member-side blog.

My first review is up here: Steam-Powered: Lesbian Steampunk Stories

So after ranting yesterday (and thank you guys for bearing with me while I flailed like an epileptic rodent), I was calm enough to respond to the panel coordinator in a rational way. I explained that we would prefer a two hour time slot for Misogyny and Yaoi-- although, if she can only give us one hour, we'll deal-- and then I laid out my rationale for our other panel. The rationale was pretty much "MaY is about all of the problematic issues. Don't Call Me a Sidekick is about the leeeeerve."

Got an e-mail this morning saying that the coordinator had received more hours for panel programming (IDEK), and that she's pretty sure she can fulfill both my requests. At the very least, [profile] existance and I will be running all four panels, and we will likely get our two hours.

So, I think the lesson here is that new panel coordinators are n00bs. Or that whining on LJ makes you better able to articulate your points elsewhere. Something.
So, I just got an e-mail back from the panel people. The Limits of Online Fandom and Yaoi Pre-Yaoicon are fine but:

a) they don't know if they'll have time to schedule me a two hour block for Misogyny and Yaoi, so they want to schedule me for only an hour

b) Apparently celebration of women in yaoi is a "subtopic for the Misogyny panel", so they denied it. Despite the fact that they're already cutting my Misogyny panel time in half. And the fact that talking about WHAT YOU LIKE is something entirely different from talking about problems.

Why did Isis have to retire? :(

Also, this means I'll have to go pick up a couple of volunteer hours to make up for the panels I'm not scheduled, if I want free admission next year. Triple fuckdamn.
about: The companion mix for [personal profile] megyal's absolutely amazing fic, The Bijozakura Seal at [community profile] kinked. (Link forthcoming)

Kakashi and Iruka are bonded together, entirely against their wishes. While Iruka begins to deal with it, Kakashi still has... doubts.

We have all committed offenses; together, we confess these human sins:

The sins of arrogance, bigotry, cynicism, deceit, egotism flattery, greed, injustice, and jealousy. We have kept grudges, we have been lustful, malicious, and narrow-minded. We have been obstinate, possessive, quarrelsome, rancorous, and selfish. We have seen violence, weakness of will, and xenophobia. We yielded to temptation, and showed zeal for bad causes.

God, I begin to wonder what I'm doing here
With all these people
Confessing their horrible faults.
I think I did a pretty good job last year
Considering what I had to work with
And the world I had to work in;
So what am I doing here?

Well, there's no question
I could have done a little bit better
And I'm also grateful
That I had the chance to do it at all

So even though I'm not exactly sure
Who it is I should be saying this to
I want to say thank you to someone
I want to say sorry to someone
I want to say let's do it better next year
To someone.
And I'm glad there's someone to say these to
Even if I sometimes wonder.

(Borrowed from [profile] cidercupcakes and [personal profile] fox1013)
One of the big pieces of the ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is that you reflect over the past year, and you attempt to (A) accept and forgive anything that has been done to you, and (B) apologize and ask forgiveness for anything you have done to others.

Anonymous commenting is enabled, and all comments are screened. If I've done anything to hurt you this year, let me know. If there's anything you think I might still be upset over, let me know that too. I won't unscreen unless you specifically request I do- or, well, I'll reply, but then I will re-screen immediately. (Er, if it's anon, I do not know if that's possible? But yes. I will try!) The goal isn't to start fresh- that's often not possible- but to acknowledge what has happened over this year (or any previous time, if you so choose) as an attempt to not have it happen again.

I promise to treat anything you say seriously and respectfully, and I will seriously be considering it over the next ten days.

My tickets to San Francisco for the Yaoicon season have been acquired! I will be coming in on Wednesday the 27th and leaving Wednesday, the 3rd. In between I will undoubtedly be going to Yaoicon, spending the rest of the time packing, going to restaurants, packing, eating street food, packing, and packing.

If anyone wants to hang out outside of Yaoicon. I am totally cool with making the time. ([profile] notrafficlights? You're not going to the con, right?)

Also, Iz and I have bid our panels for this year. No word on scheduling yet, but the panel descriptions are below.

(Internalized) Misogyny and Yaoi )

The Limits of Online Fandom )

Yaoi Pre-Yaoicon )

Don't Call Me A Sidekick: The Women of Yaoi )

As we did last year, we're asking for a two-hour time slot for the Misogyny panel-- although there's no guarantee we'll get it, two hours is definitely a better amount of time.

And, as always, if anyone has any comments, suggestions, questions or links that we can use to make the panels better or more well-rounded, they are appreciated.

Just to make it clear, in case people are wondering, I don't actually have LJ set up to crosspost anything. I don't think the people I went to Israel with care about my gay porn, and I use Twitter mostly for Gail Simone and Feminist Hulk.

In case my "y'all are overreacting post" made you think I was going to crosspost my comments to your posts everywhere or some shit.

Edit: Maybe I'm just bitter because no one's commented on my Dreamwidth since June. I'm an attention whore, guys.
WTF WTF WTF WTF This is the first time in fucking YEARS I've been excited about a GoH at Yaoicon!

Of course, it's because he was the seiyuu for Treize MOTHERFUCKING Khushrenada and Brad GODDAMN Crawford. Which probably says something about how old I am and how little I give a fuck about current yaoi series, but STILL.

Scar from Full Metal Alchemist; Byakuya Kuchiki from Bleach; Kunimitsu Tezuka from Prince of Tennis, FUCKING Katsuhiko Jinnai from El Hazard, Shigure Sohma from Fruits Basket, Ranmaru Samejima from Kizuna, MISTA~ K from Gravitation, GODDAMN Tigers Eye from Sailor Moon SuperS HOLY CRAP I'M OLD, Dark Mousy from D.N.Angel, and Reever Wenhamm from D.Gray-man (whoever that is).

I am flailing SO HARD OMG TREIZE.

I am such a giant dweeb.

I'm sorry if the idea that someone could be "naturally fat" makes you feel like I'm telling you that you, personally, can never lose weight (even though I wasn't talking to you). I'm sorry if you must insist that being fat is always unnatural because that's the only way you can convince yourself that you could some day not be fat. I understand that the Fat Acceptance concepts like "dieting never works" can feel defeatist when weight loss is your goal.

I am not your doctor, after all. I cannot tell you if you have a thyroid problem, or whether you are binge eating in an unhealthy way. All I can tell you is that every single person in my family is fat, and the only ones who aren't fat severely restrict their diet (or, in the case of my mother's teenage years, take speed). If you think that being genetically predisposed to fatness in a family that is genetically predisposed to fatness (or being genetically predisposed to fatness in a family that is only partially or NOT AT ALL predisposed to fatness, for that matter) does not make you naturally inclined to be fat-- and thus, well, Naturally Fat, you're wearing blinders because you, personally, do not want to believe that bodies might sometimes choose to be fat because that body happens to hold onto fat for whatever reason.

And maybe someone who has a slow metabolism, or a medical condition or genetic predisposition can slim down if they really, really really try. (I did mention the restricted eating and the drugs, right?) And maybe the fact that people CAN do it if they really, really really try means that the body didn't really want to be fat in the first place. Except that the fact that someone has to go through all of that trouble-- and probably continue to do it constantly for the rest of their lives-- means that the new state-- the state you have to work at-- is the unnatural state.

I'm not saying you shouldn't if you feel its better for your body for whatever reason. I'm not saying it's impossible to do. I'm saying that bodies come in many shapes and sizes, and their shapes and sizes are natural. Someone who is fat is naturally fat. We are not barbies popped out molds with edges that need to be sanded down. We are human beings, and as such, our bodies are tricky things. Some of them like holding onto fat. Some of them like being fat. Sometimes we don't like them being fat but our opinions don't change our body's inclinations all the time-- just like not wanting to be near-sighted doesn't stop someone from being nearsighted, and not wanting to be short doesn't stop someone from being short. Just because there are ways to change it doesn't mean your body has stopped being inclined to look at the world in a particular way.

Never mind, I give up. I'm going to sleep.
